It’s all about the eyes!
As I’m getting more and more into photography, I’ve realized that what I love most about people is their expressions. Being able to see emotions flickr across a face is the most intimate way to connect with someone. Recently, I “auditioned” for the position of a second shooter with Katie Nitchie of Nitchie Photography (and I’m happy to say, I got the position so look out for those photos later on!), and I snapped the following photographs that capture the intensity of one’s eyes – thus, the inspiration for this post!
As a dancer, I learned that one of the most important modes of communication is my eyes. A dancer’s job is to convey a story, and the eyes are the core of that storytelling process. During all my years of training as a dancer, my teacher would always emphasize the importance of connecting with your inner emotions in order to reflect them externally on your face. (In fact, I remember preparing for certain dances or performances and practicing in front of the mirror in my bathroom!)
I feel that my experience with dance (particularly in this context) has completely influenced how I relate to people and how I understand emotions, and I’m so grateful that I have this art in my life.
I hope photography will become another avenue that I can establish emotional connections, both within myself and with others!
And, just for kicks, here are some pictures from my debut solo performance back in 2004!
